I am currently a Fellow in the Stanford Humanities Fellows Program and will begin an appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Yale University in 2010.

 

I completed my PhD in the Department of History at the University of California, Berkeley in 2008 with a dissertation entitled “The Nature of Ottoman Egypt: Irrigation, Environment, and Bureaucracy in the Long Eighteenth Century.”

 

My research and teaching interests lie in the fields of Ottoman history, environmental history, the comparative history of early-modern empires, commodity history, and the history of Islamic science and medicine.
